Comprehensive Exams

Comprehensive Exams

At Oak Dentistry, we practice preventative dentistry so you don’t have to experience pain or unpleasant symptoms. An integral part of this proactive approach is our comprehensive patient exams.

Regular dental exams help to compliment the daily efforts you make to brush and floss your teeth. Seeing Dr. Lim every six months allows our Arlington, TX dentist to evaluate your oral health. What’s more, he uses these exams to identify any impact your mouth is having on your overall wellness too.

A typical patient exam consists of:

A thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth
The use of an intraoral diagnostic tool
Clear images and digital x-rays of your mouth
An oral cancer screening
A periodontal assessment
Kind feedback and advice from Dr. Lim

We urge all patients to see us at least every six months (as recommended by the American Dental Association) so we can prevent any issues taking shape or can catch them early. This will save you money, keep your teeth looking great, and make your smile last longer.

Oral Hygiene Maintenance

Oral Hygiene Maintenance

At times your comprehensive exam may reveal the need for a dedicated hygiene plan. If this is the case, your dentist in Arlington, TX will refer you to our in-house dental hygienists who can assess your teeth and gums while providing you with a professional cleaning.

Our gentle and precise hygienists use modern equipment to comfortably clean your teeth and remove plaque from around the gum line. You or your child may also require a fluoride treatment to boost your levels and help protect your teeth.

As part of our commitment to preventative and ongoing dental care, our hygienists will spend some time discussing your at-home oral routine. If there are areas for improvement, they will explain how you can make the changes and the benefits these will bring. We’ll never judge you or make you feel guilty, but rather, we genuinely want you to have the healthiest smile possible.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral Cancer Screenings

Our Oak Dentistry team is not only dedicated to your smile but to your overall wellness too. As part of our commitment to comprehensive care, we offer regular oral cancer screenings so you can have peace of mind while we strive to catch cancer in its earliest form (which greatly increases your chance of survival).

Dr. Lim has both the knowledge and technology to identify any potential signs of oral cancer. Common symptoms include:

Red or white spots or sores anywhere in the oral cavity
A sore that bleeds easily or does not heal
A lump, thickening, or rough spot
Pain, tenderness, or numbness anywhere in the mouth or on the lips

With his training, he is able to examine your entire mouth and neck both visually and by feeling the soft tissue. If he sees an area of concern, he conducts a brush test to collect cells and sends them off to our partner lab for analysis. Further, we may recommend a biopsy and seeing your medical physician.

Oral cancer can develop at any age. Therefore, we recommend all our patients have annual screenings and ask Dr. Lim for advice on preventing the disease.

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal or gum disease is one of the most common problems we face in the U.S. today. This disease normally occurs due to inconsistent or poor oral hygiene habits including missing dental check-ups. With this in mind, Dr. Lim recommends visiting the dentist every six months so we can assess you for this disease.

Gum disease presents a number of common symptoms, such as:

Red or inflamed gums
Sensitive gums
Bleeding gums

It usually occurs when plaque builds up and is not removed. The good news is our dentist and hygienists can care for mild to intermediate gum disease in our office. Professional cleanings at Oak Dentistry can reverse the affects of gum disease if caught early. These cleanings remove plaque and allow the gums to flourish once again.

If more severe, scaling or root planing may be necessary. This involves a deeper cleaning below the gum line using special techniques and our dentist’s advanced skills.

As with all treatments, aftercare is very important, so our team is sure to provide you with top tips on how to keep your gums healthy.

It can be difficult to reach all angles and tooth surfaces when brushing and flossing daily. This can be especially true for our younger patients. Step in Dr. Daniel Lim! He has a simple yet innovative procedure that makes brushing so much easier and can be super effective at preventing cavities. The name of this solution? Dental sealants.

Dental sealants refer to a special clear resin, which is painted onto the surface of your tooth. The resin fills common fissures and pits on your tooth that are susceptible to trapping food debris. When this debris becomes trapped, it can lead to decay and, in turn, cavities. However, sealants solidify and fill these pits making your tooth’s surface smooth. You or your child can then easily brush away any debris and enjoy a healthier, happier smile.

Root Canals
Root Canals

Severe decay or trauma can cause infection to occur on the inside of your tooth, known as the pulp. When the pulp becomes infected, it can lead to tooth sensitivity, a toothache, and severe pain. In cases like this, Dr. Lim may recommend root canal therapy, which can be performed in our office in complete comfort.

Although many people fear root canals, the truth is that modern technology has removed the related pain and has turned it into a routine procedure. Dr. Lim begins by prepping the area and making it numb. He then clears away any plaque or debris and removes the infection from inside the tooth. Once the tooth is cleaned, he applies a special resin to stabilize and seal the tooth.

The result is a beautifully restored natural tooth!

Mouth Guards & Night Guards
Mouth Guards & Night Guards

Your teeth and gums are precious and are susceptible to various types of trauma, some self-inflicted. Our Arlington dentist understands the fragility of teeth, which is why he has trained in the art of creating custom-made mouth guards.

Two common mouth guards are available at our dental office: Sports Guards and Night Guards.

Sports Guards: These athletic mouth guards are designed to comfortably fit over your teeth and absorb any impact when you play sports.

Night Guards: Worn at night, these mouth guards act as a protection against teeth grinding (bruxism) and can be prescribed to hold your jaw into the right position and prevent misalignment.

When you visit Oak Dentistry, our skilled dentist may recommend a mouth guard and will work with you for the most comfortable fit possible.

Sedation Dentistry

Enabling you to relax and get the care you deserve.
Millions of people avoid going to the dentist due to anxiety caused by a bad childhood experience, a painful procedure, or poor outcome. We understand it isn’t easy to trust the dentist again after these issues but dentistry has changed to a more pleasant, comfortable experience – especially at Oak Dentistry.

One of our main goals is to ensure patient comfort throughout each visit, regardless of the procedure. We are able to achieve this with our array of sedation options. These tried and tested relaxation methods can help the most nervous patient enjoy their visit (it’s true!)

At our office, we provide a few sedation dentistry solutions:

  • Atmospheric Sedation
Dr. Lim creates a peaceful environment with the lights down low so you can relax, watch your favorite show, or listen to music while we work.
  • Nitrous Oxide
We can use laughing gas to help our anxious patients relax a little and get comfortable while in the dentist chair.
  • Oral Sedation
By taking a small pill, our more nervous patients relax and enter a state of calm. You will need someone to come and take you home, but we are sure you’ll enjoy your visit.
