Dental Implants

Missing a tooth or have a tooth that is broken or decayed beyond repair? If so, you may be unhappy with your smile, and you may have a difficult time eating and speaking. However, you don’t have to live with a missing or damaged tooth. Oak Family Dentistry can help you with dental implants!

What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a non-removable restoration that looks and feels like a real tooth. The implant has three parts. The implant itself, which is made of titanium, is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth and acts like the new tooth’s root. On top of the implant, an abutment will be placed, and on top of the abutment, the new tooth will be attached.

What is the dental implant procedure like?
From start to finish, the procedure to get dental implants can take several months. If Dr. Ryan Schmidgall of Oak Family Dentistry thinks that you can benefit from an implant, he will start the procedure by performing a thorough exam, including an X-ray of your teeth and jaw.

Then, Dr. Schmidgall will make a mold of your jaw so he can determine the spacing of the gum and tissue; he will use your X-rays and this mold to help develop a treatment plan for your implant.

We will place your implant. The first step will be to numb the gum area with a local anesthetic. The implant is surgically inserted into the bone socket of the missing tooth. It can take six to 12 weeks for the implant to fuse to the bone, something known as “osseointegration.”

Dr. Schmidgall will make an impression of your mouth, which will be used to make your artificial tooth. Once the implant has fused with the bone, your artificial tooth can be placed.

How much do dental implants cost?
As with other procedures, the cost of dental implants can vary. It can depend on many things, such as how many visits you have to make to your Arlington, TX dentist. If you are wondering if your insurance might help you with implants, the staff at Oak Family Dentistry would be happy to find out for you. If you don’t have insurance, Oak Family Dentistry offers different financing plans.
