At Oak Family, Cosmetic, and Implant Dentistry Dr. Ryan Schmidgall provides general and cosmetic dentistry to preserve and restore your smile to its full potential. Dr. Schmidgall and our experienced dental team are excited to offer all the dental services and treatments you will ever need to make your smile healthy.

At Oak Family Dentistry we offer composite (“tooth-colored”) fillings to restore the function and structure of teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma. Traditional amalgam restorations have a metallic-silver look to them, but the use of ‘tooth-colored’ composite can provide you with a restoration that matches your enamel in a near perfect blend, giving you a harmonious and aesthetic appearance.

Dr. Schmidgall uses composite to (1) correct cavities in newly damaged teeth, as well as (2) replace your old metal fillings—to give a younger and healthier appearance to your smile.

Composite Fillings for Cosmetic Restoration

You have taken good care of your teeth your whole life; you see your dentist regularly and promptly address decay with restorative fillings. You should be proud of how responsibly you protected and preserved your smile, throughout the years.
Unfortunately, many of us are self-conscious about the appearance of silver-colored amalgam fillings in our mouths, especially in the teeth that show when we smile. It’s hard to fully enjoy yourself with another person if you are afraid to laugh out loud, only to reveal a mouth full of metal. Visible amalgam restorations are a very clear sign of aging—whereas a harmonious white smile is simply more youthful-looking, and less distracting to those we meet.

If you are interested in restoring your smile for professional or personal reasons, know that replacing your amalgam fillings with composite is an option that is both beautifying and good for your teeth, long-term. Composite is not as temperature-sensitive as metal, so it does not expand as much with heat, which helps prevent cracking of the tooth over time. They also are associated with less hot and cold sensitivity. Additionally, composite forms a stronger bond with the natural tooth str

Replace Your Fillings with Tooth-colored Composite

When you visit Oak Family, Cosmetic, and Implant Dentistry to replace your fillings with tooth-colored composite, Dr. Schmidgall and our staff will make sure you are comfortable as we restore your smile to its youthful appearance. Usually only one office visit is needed, with the appointment lasting as little as 30 minutes or as long as two hours, if you have several restorations you want replaced.

Many people are pleased to learn that composite fillings are relatively inexpensive. In most cases 50-80% of the cost is covered by dental insurance. They often last 8-12 years or more, and should be replaced due to wear from years of chewing. At Oak Family, Cosmetic, and Implant Dentistry, we offer a limited warranty on composite fillings against chipping, cavities, or leakage for two years, as long as you maintain your preventative hygiene visits with us.

If you would like to schedule a consultation to discuss replacing your amalgam restorations with composite, please call us today at 817-375-0400 or request an appointment through our website.
